Anthony Ellis’ Gaining Mass programme is one of the classic muscle building guides. Anthony was one of the very first guys to bring bodybuilding programs to the internet, and his guide is one of the most widely used guides in the world!
The programme is a comprehensive training and nutrition guide for hard gainers, like Anthony himself, who are sick of struggling to gain to smallest amount of muscle growth. It’s a step by step diet and workout manual that will have you packing on the muscle faster than you thought possible. While the Gaining Mass e-book is written for beginners, I also found that the training and nutritional information was good enough that even those with more experience could benefit from it.
The programme runs for 26-weeks, and is made of three basic components. The first is diet, the key to nay successful muscle building regime. Anthony’s diets focus on using your body's own natural hormones to stimulate muscle growth.
The program also incorporates calorie cycling to prevent plateaus by stopping your body from adjusting to a specific caloric intake. The manual comes with pre-set muscle gain diets that will have you gaining muscle fast, without steroids. He presents a simple but effective formula for determining exactly how many calories you will likely need to start putting on the pounds.
The second part is the training itself. The workouts are pretty simple and easy to follow, and even a complete beginner will be able to do them well. The training focuses on compound exercises which stimulate the largest amount of muscle fibres, triggering maximum muscle growth. The 26-week schedule is divided into several phases which allow for workout cycles to prevent plateaus and keep things varied. A three-week beginner course is also included for those new to weight training, which I thought was a great bonus!
Anthony also covers supplements in the third part of the programme. He recommends that supplements only be used to help you achieve a goal, not as a replacement for a good workout and diet plan. I found this section to be one of the most valuable sections of the whole e-book; it really breaks down exactly what to look for in a supplement, and how to determine which one is right for YOUR specific goal. Getting rid of the confusion around supplements can definitely save you a ton of money!
So what exactly do you get in the Gaining Mass package? Well, there’s the main manual, a 240-page e-book with complete instructions on how to diet and train to gain muscle mass or lose fat, in a simple, easy to follow style. You also get the Gaining Mass program work book, which has all the diet and workout sheets and schedules you’ll need throughout the program.
I do have one major complaint though. Despite the fact that Gaining Mass has a very impressive user base, the customer service and support aspect seems to be missing from the package. If you’re a beginner, you need a level of support and guidance that this programme simply cannot provide with the e-book alone.
My recommendation would be that this programme would be great if you’re at the stage where you can direct your own training without needing constant support. The training and diet information in the e-book is definitely worthwhile, as the huge user base shows. However, for beginners, there are better programmes out there for you. My recommendation would be that this programme would be great if you’re at the stage where you can direct your own training without needing constant support.
